How to use the iAuscultate iPhone App
______________________________
1. Select the introduction section on the main Menu. The introduction instructs you on the
use of the iPhone App. iAuscultate is a learning method whereby you
learn a sound while seeing a visual paired to the sound: a
spectrogram. In the intro an explanation on how to interpret the visual
(spectrogram) is given.
Below is an example of one of the introduction pages in the iPhone App. In this introduction page (one of several), explanations of how sound is may create a visual
image and how this correlates to various cardiac sounds.
2. Select the second item, "Normal" in the main Menu.
This will give you a chance to hear a normal heart sound while viewing
a spectrogram (with a cursor flowing across the spectrogram in
synchrony with the sound). You should listen and watch for 200
seconds. There is a timer built in to the application (see upper right
hand corner). After 200 seconds, take a break and repeat the "Normal"
session.
3. Select the remaining buttons in the main Menu from top to bottom to learn the rest of the sounds. Follow
the same pattern of learning: 200 seconds of viewing and listening -
break 10 minutes - repeat - - - then go to the next sound.
Below, is a static example of the third sound on the menu: Aortic Stenosis - Pathological.
Below, is a static example of the last sound on the menu: S4. After
you have viewed and heard S4 for 200 seconds (and repeated), you are
finished with the iAuscultate learning application.
The sounds you will learn
Normal, Innocent Aortic Stenosis,
Pathological Aortic Stenosis, Innocent Mitral Regurgitation,
Pathological Mitral Regurgitation, Aortic Regurgitation, Mitral
Stenosis, S3, and S4.
